Early Years & Primary (KS1 and KS2)
Activities and programmes for younger children
Year 2 and Year 5 workshops
Your free 2-hour workshop will include a backstage tour of the theatre, an introduction to the legacy of Rowena Cade and a series of theatre skills games. The sessions are designed to support the school curriculum and facilitate the development of a love of theatre and performance. Working in small groups with skilled professional practitioners, you will create and perform your own short play on the Minack stage (for class sizes of approx. 30 children). These sessions can also be held in school to suit your timetable.
The curriculum theme can be chosen to enhance in-school learning e.g. Vikings, local history, specific plays and techniques.
MADE
Made has been initiating exciting and creative music and dance interventions in partnership with early years providers; schools, colleges and extended services; youth and community groups. The Made team of arts practitioners are professional artists with relevant qualifications, they are experienced in working across ages, abilities and sectors and are keen to train new artists in the work.
Minack Magic Moments is a 90 minute workshop aimed at EYFS (preschools and schools). A playful journey around the Minack Theatre through music, song, dance and Shakespeare's A Midsummers Night’s Dream story. Wenna White, Betty Blue and Ryan Red will greet the children and involve them in this immersive experience.
The Little Sing Festival is a series of songs for early years voices created by Made Arts. Learn the songs, play instruments, dance and tell the story of Bella Balloon who needs help with her singing. The songs have proved to have significant impact on young children's singing, language and communication development. After receiving two workshops at your setting The Little Sing Festival is a fantastic opportunity for very young children to come together as a choir and perform here at the Minack Theatre.
Shakespeare
Our Shakespeare workshops and festivals are offered for free to schools across Cornwall. They can be delivered within schools or at the Minack Theatre. These events give young people a chance to explore Shakespeare’s works and create their own performances. Read more about our Shakespeare programme here.
You can also plan your own visit to the Theatre to explore the site, the history and the exhibition centre. Some visitor slots include free performances from 'Billy Rawlings' Rowena Cade's head gardener. Check our events calendar for dates and times. We also have an activity booklet for young people to complete as they walk around the site!
Support our work
Every workshop and creative opportunity we offer is free, made possible by visitor income and donations. With your support, we can keep inspiring young minds, nurturing local talent, and sharing the joy of theatre with everyone.
