Play in a Day

Play in a Day

Creative workshop at the Minack

Working with professional actors, directors and other creative artists, a group of people come together to rehearse and perform a play to an audience, all in one day!

Creating a Play in a Day is an exciting workshop experience, in which participants work with professional theatre practitioners to create a play from scratch, including acting, costume, music, props and often the script as well!

During a Play in a Day participants work in groups on different aspects of the play. Everyone gets a chance to participate in all the activities.

Play in a Day culminates in a performance of the whole piece before an audience. Family and friends are welcome to attend the performance. They will need to purchase visitor tickets to do so.

Each Play in a Day is designed for a specified age range.

What time do I need to arrive?

Please arrive from 9.50am as we aim to start a warm up on the stage at 10am. Our chaperones will sign each child in at the theatre entrance, our car park team will direct you on arrival.

What does my child need for the day?

As much of the day is outside, please ensure that your child is wearing comfortable shoes, appropriate clothing (for warm weather, wet weather and wind) and please bring a hat and apply suncream. Each participant will also require a packed lunch, a water bottle (we can refill this throughout the day) and snacks.

What time will the performance be?

The estimated time of the performance will be confirmed in the information sent out prior to the day. You can then book a ticket for the appropriate theatre and garden visit slot.

Do I need to book a ticket to watch the performance?

To watch the performance, you will need to book a theatre and garden ticket. You can book that here, select the date and book an arrival time. Ideally select the last slot of the day although you are of course welcome to book earlier and enjoy the theatre. If you have any issues with booking a ticket, please call the Box Office on 01736 810181 or email [email protected].

Please do book in advance as it secures your place and makes your entry into the theatre quicker.

  • If you live in TR19 you are entitled to register for a free TR19 annual pass that will give you access along with one other adult and up to 3 children. Please register for a pass on our website, book your slot which will zeroise at checkout and please bring proof of residence on arrival, ideally photographic ID with proof of address.
  • If you are outside of TR19 and do not have an annual pass (also purchasable on the website) then tickets are £10 adult/£5 child if you buy in advance.
How can I prepare my child for the day?

We have put together a visual story of the day to help prepare your child. You can download this here.

Photography and webcam

While we take photos at the event you can of course click no to photographs as we appreciate that it is a parent/guardian right to refuse for photos of their children being shared on our website and social media. However we would just like to draw your attention to our live webcam Minack Live! which operates 24 hours a day and that we are open to the public who pay to come and view the theatre. We are a very busy destination and are therefore unable to stop visitors from taking photos that the children may be in.
