The Minack Wins Recognition for Accessible Tourism
The Minack Theatre Wins Silver at Cornwall Tourism Awards 2025
We're delighted to announce that the Minack Theatre has been awarded Silver in the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism category at the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2025.
The award, sponsored by Access Cornwall, recognises businesses across the county that go above and beyond to welcome all visitors. We're proud to stand alongside Gold winner Sara's Cottage in Truro and Bronze recipients Bridge Bike Hire and Wetwheels South West.
Awards organiser Robin Barker of Services for Tourism said: "The innovation, resilience and dedication of tonight's winners is simply extraordinary."
Sponsored by Access Cornwall
We're grateful that this category is sponsored by Access Cornwall, a not-for-profit organisation that does vital work supporting tourism businesses like ours. Their team of staff and volunteers, who all live with disabilities themselves, provide accessibility training and professional accessibility audits to help organisations across Cornwall become more inclusive and compliant. They also produce the Accessible Guide to Cornwall, offering visitors a one-stop resource for planning accessible trips around the county.
Their practical guidance and lived expertise have been invaluable in helping us identify where we can do better and how to make meaningful improvements for our visitors.
Making our cliffside site welcoming to everyone
Creating an accessible experience at a theatre carved into a Cornish cliff presents obvious challenges. The steep, rocky geography of our site means there are limitations we simply cannot overcome. But this recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to welcoming everyone as fully as possible.
For visitors with mobility needs, we offer step-free access to all upper levels including the café, exhibition centre and shop, along with designated parking bays near the entrance and our accessible balcony provides stunning views across the theatre and Porthcurno Bay.
We're equally committed to supporting visitors with hearing and sensory needs. A hearing loop operates in the Lower Terraces and on the accessible balcony, and assistive hearing headsets are available for anyone who needs a boost from our sound system. Selected performances feature audio description or BSL interpretation. Sensory bags containing ear defenders, sunglasses and fidget toys can be borrowed on request.
We also offer free companion tickets for anyone who needs to bring a carer with them—no questions asked and no proof required.
It takes teamwork to succeed
This award belongs to our whole team, whose welcome and supportive approach make such a difference to our visitors' experiences. We're grateful to everyone who has shared feedback that helps us improve, and to Access Cornwall and the Cornwall Tourism Awards for this recognition.
