Our Mission

Inspiring your imagination

The Minack Theatre is a Charitable Interest Organisation. This means all the money we earn is invested back into the charity.

We do not receive any external funding. We rely on the income generated from our visitors and membership to preserve this unique site and the legacy of Rowena Cade.

The Minack is both a tourist destination in its own right and a venue for live performances. Our responsibility is the preservation of this unique site for future generations and the maintenance and promotion of its use as a working theatre along with education of the creative arts.

The 3 core mission statements

  • Engage the public through creative performance and the living and visual arts embodied in the Minack Theatre.
  • Enhance people’s lives through the shared experience of live performance and of visiting the Minack Theatre.
  • Inspire people by the remarkable story of Rowena Cade, and young people especially through active participation in creative activities.

A living theatre & garden

The Minack is a living theatre and garden in every sense.  Its dramatic setting and the remarkable woman who built it are equally inspiring.

Our world famous theatre is perched on the rugged cliffs of South-West Cornwall.  We welcome over 200,000 people each year to enjoy the stunning ocean views, the magnificent gardens and experience the magic of live performance in this iconic space.

Each year, we stage over 200 live performances at the Minack, including plays, musicals, opera, live music and children’s events. Tens of thousands of people come here to experience a show at the theatre under the stars and become a part of its extraordinary, on-going story.

Enriching lives

The work of running the theatre has grown exponentially, since the days when Rowena could call on a small team of dedicated volunteers to help out on shows.  Now we are one of the largest employers in the area with over 70 staff in roles as diverse as catering, gardening, visitor services and education. We also contract local creatives and freelancers and contribute over £1m annually to the local economy. We actively support Cornish theatre companies and our education programme enables over 2,000 young people to experience and take part in theatre projects and productions each year.

Inspiring young people

Rowena Cade created the Minack as a community asset to bring people together through theatre. As part of her legacy, we seek to engage as many young people as possible with the performing arts, both as audience and participants. Our Taking Part programme reaches thousands of young people across Cornwall every year and most of the projects are delivered free of charge. We aim to make theatre affordable and accessible to all young people, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Support our work

Every workshop and creative opportunity we offer is free, made possible by visitor income and donations. With your support, we can keep inspiring young minds, nurturing local talent, and sharing the joy of theatre with everyone.
