Mevagissey Male Choir
with Culdrose Military Wives Choir
Once again Mevagissey Male Choir is delighted to be returning to the Minack, to delight audiences with their music. It is four years since they last featured here and their special guests then were, as now, the fabulous Culdrose Military Wives Choir.
Mevagissey Male Choir hail from the small fishing port of Mevagissey, a beautiful area south of St.Austell. With only a population of 1749, (2022 census) they can proudly boast to be one of the South West's best male choirs. They have sung across the world in such countries as U.S.A., Canada, Madrid, across Europe, Gibraltar, Cyprus, with a visit to Malta in the pipeline.
They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with a concert in the Hall for Cornwall to a packed audience. Now with a relatively new Musical Director, Jimmy Cannon, an accomplished jazz musician, and an excellent stalwart accompanist Matt Fox, their repertoire is better than ever.
Culdrose Military Wives Choir, founded in 2012 and inspired by Gareth Malone’s The Choir, was one of the earliest groups in what is now a network of 72 choirs and nearly 2,000 members across the UK and overseas. A registered charity, the Military Wives Choirs bring women with a military connection together to sing, share and support one another.
Based in Helston at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, the choir has featured on three Military Wives Choirs albums and performs an eclectic repertoire of contemporary pieces at venues across Cornwall – with the Minack Theatre a special favourite.
The choir is led by Musical Director Taylor London, a recent Masters graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music and also a military spouse.
