Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, music and lyrics by Mel Brooks
presented by The Mitre Players
IT’S ALIVE! From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers comes this monster musical comedy. Minack regulars, The Mitre Players will be returning to the magnificent Minack Theatre with a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks’ classic comedy film masterpiece that is Young Frankenstein.
The story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronk-en-steen) as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor (that’s Eye-gor), his curvaceous, yodelling lab assistant Inga, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster — but not without some (comically) scary and quite often hilarious complications.
Featuring over 20 catchy songs, imaginative choreography, colourful costumes and impressive effects, Mel Brooks combines many of the elements of the 1931 film with his own brand of anarchic, irreverent and risqué humour – you have been warned!
This musical is written by Mel Brooks and contains many of his trademark types of humour. ie akin to a pantomime or Carry On film. Parental guidance recommended.
