Concerts Penzance brings high quality live music to the centre of Penzance

Haydn, Shostakovich & Britten

Concerts Penzance are back again, bringing international quality live chamber music to the heart of Penzance.  We are delighted to be relaunching the series by welcoming the Elmore Quartet, MusicAbility’s first resident string quartet. New generation musicians at the exciting early stages of their professional careers, the members of the quartet will be visiting West Cornwall regularly over the coming years, giving public concerts, working in schools, inspiring music lovers and introducing music to a whole new audience. Quartet Fellows at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the quartet have been prizewinners at several major competitions across Europe.  Their residency allows them a base in Penzance from where they will develop their art and prepare for concerts and competitions across Europe.

Join them on their journey exploring the richness of the string quartet repertoire - including some of the most intimate and profound music from the last 250 years.  Their first concert balances the lightness of Haydn's quartet op.33 no.2 'The Joke' with Shostakovich's dark, single movement 13th quartet, alongside Britten's 2nd quartet with it's majestic Chacony, written in 1945 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Henry Purcell.
