Mevagissey Male Choir

with Culdrose Military Wives Choir

Once again Mevagissey Male Choir is delighted to be returning to the Minack, to delight your audiences with our music. It is four years since we last featured here and our special guests then were, as now, the fabulous Culdrose Military Wives Choir.

For those who have not experienced us before we hail from the small fishing port of Mevagissey, a beautiful area south of St.Austell. With only a population of 1749, (2022 census) we can proudly boast to be one of the South West's best male choirs. We have sung across the world in such countries as U.S.A., Canada, Madrid, across Europe, Gibraltar, Cyprus, with a visit to Malta in the pipeline.

We recently this year celebrated our 50th anniversary with a concert in the Hall for Cornwall to a packed audience. Now with a relatively new Musical Director, Jimmy Cannon, an a comprised jazz musician, and our excellent stalwart accompanist Matt Fox, are repertoire has altered, for the better I believe.

We hope you enjoy an evening with us, and that we thoroughly entertain you. With our special guests we sincerely hope you have a great evening.

Culdrose Military Wives Choir, founded in 2012 and inspired by Gareth Malone’s The Choir, was one of the earliest groups in what is now a network of 72 choirs and nearly 2,000 members across the UK and overseas. A registered charity, the Military Wives Choirs bring women with a military connection together to sing, share and support one another.

Based in Helston at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, the choir has featured on three Military Wives Choirs albums and performs an eclectic repertoire of contemporary pieces at venues across Cornwall – with the Minack Theatre a special favourite.

The choir is led by Musical Director Taylor London, a recent Masters graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music and also a military spouse.

Where do I sit?

The Minack is not like other theatres. Our seating is on either grass or concrete terraces. If the performance staging permits, a few tickets are available for members of the audience to sit on the stage.

Our auditorium is very steep and there are a lot of steps. If you are unsure about where to sit, please phone and we'll be very happy to help you. You can also check out the photos below to see the view from various parts of the auditorium.

We have an accessible balcony for those with limited mobility. If you have other seating requirements, please phone to discuss your needs.

An induction loop is available on the grass terraces and in the accessible balcony.

If you have a group booking, it is helpful if you all arrive together so that we can seat you next to each other.
